To help raise badly needed funds the team put in place various fundraising initiatives and in August Sheryl Newman part of the fundraising team held a charity ball in Aberdeen.
It was a fantastic evening 200 guests enjoyed an evening of sumptuous food and entertainment, digging deep as they put their best bids forward for a wide variety of fantastic auction, silent auction and raffle prizes. Sheryl even got into the bidding spirit early and won a jet flight simulator session at RAF Lossiemouth!
Other prizes ranged from a tennis coaching session with Strictly Come Dancing star Judy Murray, to a week’s holiday in Florida, dinner with the Scottish and New Zealand rugby teams, private skiing with former Olympian Alain Baxter and a custom designed amethyst necklace donated by Sinclairs of Inverurie, which went for almost £1000.
Make-A-Wish granted the wish of Adam Brock – a magical trip to London for Adam to meet his favourite TV character Mr Tumble. Adams mum Stephanie as our special guest of honour gave a touching humorous, honest account of how isolating Adams illness made them and the huge lasting benefits being granted a wish brought them together as a family.
Carolyn Thornton, Volunteer & Community Fundraising Manager at Make-A-Wish, said: “We are thrilled that the Ball raised an incredible sum of money. I would like to thank Sheryl Newman and the committee for organising the event, without all their hard work and motivation none of it would have been possible.”
Sheryl said, ” We are delighted that our guests helped raise a staggering £38,000 which will do so much. It was a great night full of fun and a few tears as some really touching wish stories were shared which really emphasised the great work Make-A-Wish has done and continues to do.”
We think it’s important to give back to the community in a positive way and I, along with the rest of the Appetite team, feel strongly about the work Make-A-Wish does. For these special local children it changes their lives and those of their family and friends and gives them the chance to leave behind hospitals and treatments for a short while and create magical happy memories.
