Windows 10 is here.

29th Jul 2015

“It’s the Windows you know, only better.” – Windows

Windows 10 combines the best features of Windows 7 and Windows 8 to create a fantastic user experience. Packed with great new features for staying organised, having fun and getting things done, Windows 10 is the Windows you know, only better. Best of all, Windows 10 is available for free.

10 things you need to know about Windows 10…
1. It’s free. For the first year from launch you will be able to download Windows 10 for free – if you already have Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows Phone, that is.
2. It will be the same across all of your devices. Windows 10 is designed to suit different screen sizes – whether that’s a desktop PC or an 8-inch tablet. Download an app once, and you’ll have it across all your Windows devices.
3. You can use your fingertips or the keyboard. Windows 10 is designed to work as well on a tablet as it is on a laptop.
4. Switch from keyboard to touchscreen automatically.
5. Your calendar updates across all of your devices. See what your next appointment is whether you’re on your laptop, tablet or phone. Just download the Outlook app and any changes you make to your calendar on one device will show up on them all.
6. You can ask it questions. Ask your phone or tablet all kinds of questions, merely by speaking into its microphone.
7. Edit essays, reports and spreadsheets from your tablet or phone with the new Office apps for Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
8. The Start menu is back! The Start menu had been a part of Windows since 1995. However, when Windows 8 launched it had disappeared. Now the much-missed feature is back. Use the Start menu to find the usual list of programmes and files as well as touchscreen tiles to quickly launch apps.
9. Researching something online? Write notes directly onto the webpage with a stylus pen or your finger and then save online to share with colleagues and classmates. Unfortunately though this only works with touchscreen-enabled devices, sorry.
10. Windows 10 has a special reading mode. It strips out all adverts, pictures and other bits on the page and lays out the article like a book, making it much easier to read.
How do I upgrade to Windows 10?
Use the ‘Get Windows 10’ app to reserve your free upgrade to Windows 10.
window 10
1. Click on the small Windows icon located in the right hand section of your taskbar to get started.
2. Click “Reserve your free upgrade” in the app window.
3. Enter your email if you want confirmation of this reservation.
Note: This free Windows 10 upgrade is available for PCs and tablets; the free Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will be available for most phones starting later this year.
Once the upgrade is ready for your PC, Microsoft will send you a notification allowing you to upgrade right away or pick a time that’s good for you.
After you’ve upgraded, Windows 10 will be available on that device.
Have you downloaded Windows 10 yet? If so, what are your thoughts?
